English 161: Film Appreciation

Reading Supplement & Study Guide

Please read and review the assigned chapters in your text before you read these chapter notes. Don't think of these as Cliff's Notes that you can read in lieu of your textbook. Much of the material covered there is not discussed or elaborated upon here. However, it is a safe bet that a great deal of the material in covered in the textbook, whether or not I review it here, will be addressed in your midterm and final exams. Additionally, there is a lot of material I introduce here that is not covered in our text (e.g., camera movement, aspects of production design). This too will be addressed in our exams.

Bottom Line: Read both the textbook and these supplementary notes as assigned in our course outline.
